What is GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) ?

Personal data handled at EU bases
Data from individuals in the EU (who are in the Union)

are applicable EU law.

If your company are

  • Having a distributor in the EU
  • Exporting to EU individuals (including via EC site)
  • Operating websites, owned media, and blogs for conveying information overseas including the EU
  • Running web marketing for EU individuals
  • Having a base in the EU


It is required because it may be included in the geographical scope of the GDPR, even Japanese SMEs (even overseas subsidiaries of the Japanese company) might be handle various personal data in the EU.

Since the GDPR came into force in May 2018, there are a lot of information about the GDPR, however,

“I don’t know how much it has to do with SMEs.”
“I want to know what, if any, is related to what.”
